For me here at Verlore Vallei, today, 15 May 2024, has been a momentous day. I have finally taken the plunge to announce the plans that have been brewing for a few months. That of doing my own bit to nudge other co-creators here in South Africa a bit further into the light.
I have done what I always do – act on my motto in life – if it’s worth doing something, do it well, or not at all! And believe me, being a typical Libra, that also means going through all the lists and reasons why I should NOT do something, hanging back a bit, mulling it over, and mulling over it a bit more, before I decide to push ahead and JUST DO IT!
Verlore Vallei Alpacas and Fibrecrafts have just taken on a new role, that of being the official Majacraft Dealer in South Africa. And oh boy, from being blasé about it, even telling myself I’m nuts to take on something this momentous when I should rather start thinking of retiring, I am now all revved up and ready to roll! The emergence of AI meant a serious spanner in the works for my career as a translator, but it actually proved to be a huge blessing, because I will now have oodles more time to spend on my passion!
After all, if there’s one thing that gets me super-excited, its fibre, in all its forms, but especially that of taking a bag of newly shorn formless fluff, wave those magic ten-pronged w(h)ands, and with or without a touch of dye, the flicking of hand combs or the meditative murmur of the handle on my drum carder, turning it into lavishly luscious roving …
… that can then be turned into a dreamy drapery of exquisitely lovely lacey yarn that can yet again be woven into gossamer thin works of art…
… or a magical masterpiece of mini-bytes, like these rolags ready for a meditative meandering down memory lane, spinning away on quiet day.
And then there are those days when I’m in a more adventurous mood, ready to concentrate on creating bountiful bobbles of bliss (and the odd expletive when they don’t bobble when and where they should, or the bobbin grabs more than I care to offer in one bite, and l’m left with a stumpy lump of fluff!), always astounded at the magic that eventually unfold, right there from my hands…
I can’t help it, I NEED to create things, the thought if just ‘existing’ like so many people seem to have no problem with, as long as they have a tablet or cell phone in hand (I call them stage-props, because they can’t really be living), is just too horrible to contemplate. And as I have luckily also since discovered, there is a magical world filled with REAL people out there, who just like me, are addicted to ‘make’ because they too were endowed with two of those magically ten-tipped (w)hands! So, while I’m gearing up to do more of what I like to and have to do, I can now share my addiction, and make it possible for others to get away from their ‘shackle’-phones too. Ever heard of the saying ‘misery loves company’? Nope, it was miss-translated, it actually should read ‘magic loves company’!
So, for me, and hopefully for you too, today represents the start of that meandering path along which those in search of the right equipment and tools to assist in their mastery of their individual ‘magical craft’, can join the call to release all that’s locked up deep in their spirit, to CREATE – to spin and to weave their dreams into reality!
After all, Majacraft offers you all you need to spin your dreams…
To end with, I will share a few videos to give you an idea what you can do with the majacraft magic at your disposal! Let’s start with the fusion engine, or in layman’s terms, the drum carder:-)

Suzie in the video above, is also the exceptionally talented hands doing the customisation on the Luna I shared on the website – and she will be doing the artwork on any customised wheels you may be ordering.
Watching her spinning art yarns, is like leaving earth and signing up for a galactic training session in spinning up dreams! Here’s a taste of her spinning on her magical Aura in action! https://youtu.be/9O_95xSCHxo?si=PdUfYPQwOYbOTUeq
