Hand Carded MagicBlend Alpaca Roving for Spinning 50g consists of natural, hypoallergenic huacaya alpaca fibre that has been carefully washed, picked, carded, and dizzed. It contains virtually no vegetable matter and can even be spun straight from shearing as it lacks any lanolin content. We have taken care to remove any unwanted bits of VM, ensuring a low micron, next to skin quality.

Please note, natural alpaca will never be entirely VM-free, unless processed in a corporate mill which makes use of harmfull chemical baths that not only dissolve the VM (vegetable matter), but it also strips your fibre of all its natural, wholesome protective goodness – read superwash! Our fibre is cleaned in a sustainble and nature-friendly way, with no chemical residues to harm your skin! If I’m happy to stick my hands in the washtub (barring heat), you can feel safe to hold it while spinning, not to mention wearing it!

Now this is where the real fun begins! You pick the colours!

This is NOT a boring off-the-shelf product! Because NOW you can decide which ‘cherries’ you want on top, or inside! The true power of this website and its products lies in the freedom you as a customer have to create your own magic too, because you can order literally what you want in your roving! You start by choosing your base colour alpaca, then tell me in the notes to your order what you have in mind, AND WhatsApp me a picture of your inspiration, or tell me what inspired you! If you don’t have the right vocabulary or you’re at a loss to describe your inspiration – go and find it here https://coolors.co/palettes/trending I will do the witchy bit, dye up the fluff and make the magic appear in little rolls! Make sure you also warn me if you don’t like something in your blend, like you don’t like spinning mohair or sparkles. Just so I know to save it for someone else!

My greatest pleasure lies in making all the natural colours come to life with a gentle touch of whatever other colour you have in mind!

LET’S MAKE ART TOGETHER! If you’re not sure, send me a picture of your inspiration – be it a beautiful flower, a kingfisher or even a hummingbird, a trout or a butterfly – or a piece of fabric you want to match, even a paint sample, via WhatsApp, and I will do the blending, dyeing and assembly! And it doesn’t need to just be roving, it can be a bat, it can be rolags too! EVEN HANDSPUN YARN!

As for the alpaca, it contains virtually no vegetable matter and can be spun straight from shearing as it lacks any lanolin content. We have taken care to remove any unwanted bits of VM, ensuring a low micron, next to skin quality. Please note that being natural and undyed, slight variations in colour, fibre length, and lustre may occur. Lighter colours are suitable for overdyeing if you need the colours of the rainbow too, that’s why I can do what I do here!

Simple – just select the BASE colour alpaca to place your order, type in a message with what you have in mind and send me your requested design via WhatsApp! I will create the magic from there! Just make sure you order enough from the start, as this is guaranteed to be difficult to recreate afterwards. This will be YOUR UNIQUE blend!

50g – Select your base colour! This will be predominantly huacaya (fluffy) and you may choose to add Suri (silky and drapey) – refer to our pages for more information on the difference if you’re not sure, Select your base alpaca colour on the colour wheel in the product gallery above! Then tell me what inspired you, a kingfisher, a trout, or maybe a special rose (my inspiration in the product image picture on the side was my favourite rose, Just Joey https://www.ludwigsroses.co.za/shop/hybrid-tea/just-joey/ , why not browse their catalogue for your own inspiration), the dandelions or daffodils on your spring lawn, a beach on the Maledives, the Sahara twilight, city scapes at night, a cheetah sprinting accross the savanah, a fish eagle, a lapis lazuli gemstone or some other gemstone, a favourite dress, or even a wedding theme – the possibilities are endless! Generally, huacaya is the fluffy one you need for heat, but right royal Suri is the one for sleek and cool lustrous splendour, even for summer UV protection! Every one on earth should have at least one Suri sunhat on standby, and no well-atired lady should be without at least one silky smooth Suri pashmina – yes, the ancient origins of the ultimate touch of class happens to be alpaca, and Suri in particular!!! For winter, you go for huacaya! It’s simple – H for Heat, S for Sleek and Summery. The fibre of the ‘gods’, royalty and priests, but no mere mortals where allowed to wear it, subject to punishment by death… Aren’t you glad you have a choice today?!?

I usually have the following natural colours in stock, as I have animals in all these colours: Natural White, Light Fawn, Medium Fawn, Dark Fawn, Light Brown, Medium Brown, Dark Brown, Black, light Silver Grey, Medium Silver Grey, Dark Silver Grey, Light Rose Grey, Medium Rose Grey, Dark Rose Grey.

Hand Carded MagicBlend Alpaca Roving for Spinning are beautiful lofty lengths of fibre ready for spinning. Natural coloured alpaca from my Huacaya or Suri Alpacas on the farm. The lovely Premium fibre is ready for you to create whatever beautiful item your imagination has in mind!

A section for dyed fibre will also be added soon. But that will be based on once-off dyelots, based on my creative vibes for that day, and will never be repeatable as is, I do not keep precise notes! So you won’t be able to order the exact same colours later! So if you can grab a bag of creative fuff, because the colour vibes with you, don’t let it slip out of your hands!

We also make top blends consisting of a variety of fibres and different colours, both natural colours and dyed colours. As all monitors show colours differently, the colours may appear slightly different than what you see on your screen. Should a colour not be in stock, I will replace it with a colour that will be the closest match to the colour ordered.

Due to the nature and free spirit of the animals – they just LOVE rolling around in the dust or grass, and dipping in the river – there might still be tiny flecks of vegetable matter in the fibre which will come out with further processing.

The semi-hollow core of alpaca fiber provides excellent protection against the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation! Alpacas have evolved high up in the Andean Altiplano, where solar radiation has proven to be 40% higher than in the Sahara desert! High in the Andes, one of the world’s most demanding environments, alpacas have thrived for thousands of years. At altitudes often exceeding 3,500 meters, the Andes present an inhospitable mix of scorching solar radiation during the day, freezing temperatures at night, and sudden winds that can shift conditions in minutes, a climate where survival depends on adaptation, and the alpaca’s wool is its most vital defense.

Darker fibers contain higher concentrations of melanin, which absorb harmful UV rays, while lighter fibers reflect solar radiation, reducing surface heat load.

Alpaca … warmer than wool, without weighing you down, softer than cashmere, yet light enough to protect you against the sun’s glaring rays even in summer!
